Not all hackers are bad. In fact, a hacker is a person who enjoys tinkering with software, but not to do damage.
These guys find vulnerabilities in software and talk to software makers so they can fix them. They make the world a safer place and discover better ways to build strong, stable and secure apps.
Most of them are young, according to this study by Hackerone, aged 18-34, and they’re self-taught. Their favorite target are web apps and they devote a lot of time to pursuing their passion.
Half of them hack to find vulnerabilities for money, because software makers pay them for disclosing vulnerabilities that they don’t have enough resources to catch. But these good hackers also do it to be challenged, to have fun, build their resume or to simply make the world a safer place.
So there you have it, another side of hacking that maybe you didn’t know.
